L’invitation au voyage

I paid another visit to the Royal College of Music, this time to see a performance by some student singers. Accompanied by student musicians, they performed songs that were originally poems by Victor Hugo and Charles Baudelaire, set to music by the likes of Liszt, Saint-Saëns and Fauré. The songs were arranged in a cycle to represent a relationship’s beginning, continuation and end, and were very effective.
