A Christmas Carol

I’ve seen plenty of versions of A Christmas Carol over the years, but never a puppet version, until now. The Movingstage Marionette Company’s production at the Puppet Theatre Barge is adapted from the tale by Charles Dickens, and stays true to the original. I wasn’t so keen on the little urchin puppet who narrates the story, but there is plenty else to enjoy.

The Scrooge puppet is wonderfully drawn and very true to life, while the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come are superbly realised. The shadow puppetry adds variety and a touch of magic. Overall it was an atmospheric and enjoyable experience.
