After seeing the thoroughly enjoyable old-fashioned radio comedy The Gin Chronicles earlier this year, I was excited to learn that the Misfits of London were returning with a sequel, A Scottish Adventure. Detective John Jobling and his assistant Doris Golightly managed to save the day in one gin-fuelled adventure, but now their services are required again. All over the country, juniper berries – the essential ingredient in the production of gin – are going missing, and the intrepid duo are required to head up to Scotland in a bizarre but very funny tale involving distinguished actors, a bunch of amateurs, and Nazis, not to mention more Scottish stereotypes than you can shake a stick at.
Four actors and one Foley artist people the show with a varied cast of characters: their comic timing is superb and their ability to switch quickly between characters is awe-inspiring. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and if there is ever a third instalment of The Gin Chronicles, I’ll be there.
