Nine Lives

Nine Lives, presented at the Stratford Circus Arts Centre, told the story of Ishmael, a young refugee from Zimbabwe escaping from homophobic persecution.

Written by playwright Zodwa Nyoni, it explored the stories of refugees in a passionate, fascinating and amusing way. Lladel Bryant brought great energy and empathy to the role of Ishmael, while the starkly bare stage emphasised how refugees arrive with nothing. An affecting production.
