The Wawel Dragon / Crime and Punishment: A Rock Musical

Gods and Monsters’ summer season at The Scoop this year pairs The Wawel Dragon, a family show based on a Polish myth, with Crime and Punishment: A Rock Musical. It’s an interesting combination: a Slavic theme but two very different productions.

The Wawel Dragon, adapted by Phil Wilmott and Nastazja Domaradzka, is an entertaining show that takes place while it’s still light outside, so it’s a light and entertaining experience. Crime and Punishment, on the other hand, begins as the sun is going down and has a much darker atmosphere – inevitable given the story. Sadly, although the soundtrack by Toyah Willcox and Simon Darlow is suitably ‘rock’, the songs aren’t particularly memorable, which is a shame.

Still, you can’t complain too much when it’s all free, and it was certainly an enjoyable way of spending a summer’s evening.
