The wonderfully titled Extravaganza Macabre was performed at Battersea Arts Centre, a work by Little Bulb Theatre who are the resident company. It took place in the outdoor courtyard at the centre of the building (luckily it was a fine day when I attended). The show took its inspiration from Victorian penny dreadfuls, telling the story of a young couple tragically parted and then reunited years later in highly coincidental circumstances.
With three actors playing all of the parts, it was an incredibly fast-paced romp through Victorian London, with many entertaining costume changes and exciting scenes. Extravaganza Macabre was a summer treat for the whole family.
