How to Survive A Swarm of Bees

How to Survive A Swarm of Bees, a play by Anna Crace, was performed by Lo/Fall Theatre Company at the Lyric Hammersmith Studio as part of Lyric Evolution 2016. Starring Laurie Ogden, Grace Lyons Hudson, Ciaran Byrne and Kwami Odoom, the play followed two couples (who may have represented two sides of the same couple) trapped in a room as an unspecified apocalypse raged outside.

The young performers did a good job with the sometimes confusing material; I found it hard to work out what was going on, and nothing much seemed to really happen. The stage was covered with lots of pillows, and I couldn’t quite work out why. There were some tense moments in the play – such as when a leaf blew in by mistake, apparently bringing in whatever evil was lurking outside – but overall these moments were few and far between.
