Winter Tales

I liked the sound of a festive storytelling event at the Southbank Centre, described as “a candlelit reading of tales of Arctic adventures and polar explorers”. I’m not sure you should be allowed to describe an event as “candlelit” if the candles are the artificial kind with flickering lightbulbs – but the event was enjoyable and atmospheric nevertheless.

Held in the Level 5 Function Room, it featured stories and novel excerpts read by Rosamund Lupton, Sarah Moss, and Bryan Lintott, and was chaired by translator of Dumas’ Story of a Nutcracker, Sarah Ardizzone. My favourite stories were the tales of Christmas as a polar explorer in the days of Scott and Shackleton, but I enjoyed the modern snowy tales too.
