Bells Are Ringing

Bells Are Ringing is a classic 1950s musical with music by Jule Styne (better known for Gypsy) and a book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. It is the lighthearted tale of telephone operator Ella Peterson, who adopts different personalities for the individuals who call her up and who becomes more than usually involved in their lives. When she gets a little TOO involved with a procrastinating playwright, chaos ensues.

I saw a production at Arts Educational Schools London, near Turnham Green. This was a lovely feelgood show that I thoroughly enjoyed. The performances were fantastic, and the actress playing Ella in particular was really superb. I liked the inventive set and was jealous of all the costumes! This show is very much of its time, but I loved it nevertheless, and it was given a strong production here.
