Katya Sourikova Album Launch: Queen Maud Land

Katya Sourikova, a classical and jazz pianist and composer, premiered her album Queen Maud Land at the Forge in Camden. I’d not come across her work before, but was attracted to the idea of music inspired by Antarctica – my polar obsession shows no signs of waning.

The Forge is a lovely venue, a large open downstairs room with a bar where you can gather at one end to enjoy some music. I wasn’t really sure what to make of the music – it wasn’t like anything else I’d ever heard, with a mixture of jazz and classical influences. I think I’d have to hear it again a few times before coming to a conclusion.
