Performed at the Bridge House Theatre, this double-bill of plays by Nick Brown – Red Sky / Blue Sky – was directed by Jason Lawson and starred Alex Bartram and Sophie Scott, both of whom gave strong performances, each playing two very different characters.
The stories are both set in New York. In the first, a man tries to chat up a woman he has met in a bar. In the second, a woman attempts to psychoanalyse a man who has turned up for his appointment.
On the surface very different, what the plays have in common is the theme of love and how a relationship can develop between two people. Also, unexpected twists characterised both plays – in each, the relationship between the two individuals turned out to be different than what it seemed, leading me to go back and evaluate everything I had just seen.
