I am trying to go to more classical music concerts, and decided to book Aurora Orchestra’s “Jitterbug” at LSO St Luke’s. This was my first time at this venue, which is lovely – a converted church near the Barbican.
The programme was made up of classical and traditional songs with a jazz theme. It featured Man Overboard (a swing music group) and Swing Patrol (a dance group). The playlist was as follows:
Jean-Philippe Rameau, Les Indes Galantes
Duke Ellington (arrangement by Iain Farrington), Jubilee Stomp
J C Johnson (arrangement by Dave O’Brien), Travellin’ All Alone
Igor Stravinsky, Concerto in E Flat (Dumbarton Oaks)
Niccolo Paganini, Caprice No. 5 in A Minor
Original Dixieland Jazz Band (arrangement by IF), Tiger Rag
Traditional (arrangement by IF), St James Infirmary
George Gershwin (arrangement by IF), Porgy and Bess Fantasy
I loved this concert and the mix of tunes. The style of music was amazing and I was also impressed by the enthusiasm of the Aurora Orchestra and their conductor Nicholas Collon. I was chatting to the lady next to me who loves this orchestra and makes a beeline for all their events. I can see myself going the same way.
