Nikolai Gogol’s farce Marriage was recently revived at the Jack Studio in a production by Ballast Theatre, adapted by Howard Colyer. This one-act play zipped along at a fair pace, proving itself very funny and incredibly current, as lead character Podkolyossin (Andrew Venning) muses on whether to search for a wife, “assisted” by matchmaker Fekla (Jean Apps). It is witty and sparkling, an ideal piece of evening entertaiment.
