For some reason, the Lyric Hammersmith’s Secret Theatre season didn’t particularly appeal to me. However, by the time they launched their fifth show, I thought I really should go and see what the fuss was about.
While the main auditorium is being refurbished, the shows are taking place everywhere in the building. When I visited, the audience were taken up to a large, well-lit room which reminded me of a school gym. We sat in chairs around the outside of the room as the show evolved in front of us.
As this is “secret theatre”, I won’t say too much about it for fear of spoilers. However, I will say that it is an improvisatory show with a different protagonist every night; this was interesting to watch as I had not previously experienced improvisation. Though sometimes a little slow, this was overall a charming and imaginative show.
